Late twist throws Nottingham Forest transfer deadline day deal into doubt

Nottingham Forest’s deadline day swoop for defender Loic Bade has seemingly been thrown into doubt.

The centre-back was expected to complete a loan move to the City Ground from Rennes, which included an option to make the switch permanent. However, there is said to be a late stumbling block which may mean it doesn’t get over the line.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, the fact Rennes have yet to find a potential replacement for the 22-year-old could see the deal “ultimately fall apart”. Bade and his representatives are said to be in England, but are “in the dark and waiting for a green light from Stade Rennais which may never happen”.

Bade joined Rennes from Lens last summer, having previously come up through the ranks at Le Havre. In a campaign hampered by injuries, he made 19 appearances in 2021/22, including featuring in the Europa Conference League.

Forest have already brought in defender Willy Boly on the final day of the transfer window. And they are unlikely to have finished with their summer business yet, with further incomings and outgoings expected before the 11pm cut-off.

Winger Josh Bowler is set to put pen to paper from Blackpool, and is then likely to go on loan to fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned club Olympiacos. The Reds are also making a last-minute push to sign Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea.

Steve Cooper's side have made 19 additions so far, in what has been a busy summer on the banks of the Trent. And the window could yet have a dramatic finish.
