Late Late Show's James Corden hugs Coldplay's Chris Martin after special appearance

The Late Late Show's third-to-last episode saw a special musical segment led by Coldplay's Chris Martin.

The show is coming to an end after an incredible eight year run with host and UK native, James Corden. The actor come presenter, who joined the show in 2015, revealed that he'd be leaving the hosting job last year.

CBS reportedly made "desperate" attempts to keep him on but James confirmed that the role was never his "final destination."

He told audiences: "I never saw it as my final destination, and I never want this show to overstay its welcome, I love making it and I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what's out there."

James' tenure on the show officially comes to an end on Thursday (27th April) and will see the return of iconic guests including the Kardashian family and Tom Cruise.

Chris Martin joined James on stage and was filmed embracing the host after he jammed with an in-house band in a sweet moment.

"Look who is sitting in with the band tonight, it's Chris Martin," James excitedly told the live audience during the show. "Can you believe it, the greatest thing ever!

"He said 'I just want to come and hang for one more night, is it okay if I sit in with the band?' I love it so much, I'm so happy you're here, I really appreciate it!" he told Chris.

The singer joked: "I need the work you see, how long is this gig?"

Later in the show, Chris gave James some advice about leaving after working there for so long.

"You've got to think practical and apply for jobs, dress smart, just look at what I'm doing today, I'm humbling myself," he cheekily said.

James tweeted from the Late Late show account, sharing a video of James and Chris hugging after the show, with the caption: "Thank you for jamming with our #LateLateShow band Chris Martin."

Earlier this week, James was surprised with a Carpool Karaoke ride with Adele and the pair explored some of her greatest hits including Rolling In The Deep, Love Is A Game and Hometown as well as Don't Rain On My Parade by Barbra Streisand.

Before the duo started singing her song I Drink Wine from her recent album 30, Adele provided some backstory from the song and explained how James had inspired her to write what she claims is "some of my best writing that I've ever done."

As things got emotional, Adele added that when she noticed James was feeling down, the pair had a six-hour-long chat where the presenter opened up about "work stuff and the internet and all those things," and Adele admitted to feeling "unsafe with you feeling unsafe."

She said: "You've always been like that and then I went to the studio a couple of weeks later. And I wrote this and I remember I sang it into my phone and I sent it to you. And I remember you saying 'That's exactly how I was feeling'."
