Late changes to car parking at Roundhay Park Bonfire Night could scupper plans for thousands

Bonfire Night at Roundhay Park is always , with tens of thousands of people heading to north Leeds for a spectacular free fireworks display every single year.

However, with so many people converging on Soldiers Field for the family friendly spectacular, it regularly causes absolute bedlam for people parking nearby.

This evening's traffic chaos could be even worse than normal, with the recent wet weather leading the organisers to cancel all parking on Soliders Field.

Hundreds of people usually rely on the nearby parking to get to and from the event, but they will now have to find alternative places to park or get public transport to Roundhay Park.

A spokesperson for Leeds City Council said: "Due to heavy rainfall which has made the surface unsuitable for vehicles, please note that public car parking will not be available on Soldiers Field tomorrow for those wishing to attend Roundhay Park bonfire.

"Please note car parking is generally very limited around Roundhay Park for the bonfire with selected road closures also in place.

"We ask therefore that people plan their travel appropriately."

Various other car parks, including The Mansion and the Tram Park, will not be open for people driving tonight and the organisers are urging people to walk or get public transport instead.

A number of roads will also be closed from 6pm onwards this evening, including Princes Avenue and parts of Lidgett Park Road and Street Lane.
