Last piano factory in London up for sale at auction

Fancy making some music? Or indeed, making a piano? Well, here’s your chance as a historic piano factory - the last on London - will soon be available, although the huge site can actually be turned to other purposes.

Savills is set to auction the family run J. Reid Piano Factory & Outlet site in Stamford Hill, at its forthcoming sale on 11th December, with a guide price of £6.25m.

The Georgian building, built c.1830, presents a beautifully old school façade together with a substantial site and a number of ancillary workshops and industrial buildings at the rear.

The site comprises approximately 17,500 sq ft gross internal area on a site area of approximately 0.53 acres.

The property is consists of the old factory plus a retailing showroom fronted with two substantial and attractive buildings at 182 and 184 St Ann's Road

The lot is substantial freehold mixed use retail, residential and workshop/industrial premises, and alternative uses, subject to necessary consents, could include potential development or alternative uses such as a school, community centre, or indeed music centre.

The property has remained under the same family ownership for over 70 years and now stands as the last piano factory in London and one of the last in the UK .

George Goucher, Associate Director at Savills says, “Having remained under the same family ownership for the past 70 years, the sale of the J. Reid Paino Factory marks an exciting opportunity for a prospective buyer to champion this rarely available site within the Seven Sisters/Stamford Hill area in North London.

The original building dates back to circa 1830 and is a beautiful example of two-storey flat-fronted late Georgian architecture.

Comprising retail, residential and workshop/industrial space, the asset offers plenty of scope for development or alternative uses, such as a school or community centre, which is likely to attract a wide pool of prospective bidders looking to take this property into its next phase.

Paired with the curb appeal, history, freehold status, and significant size of this asset, I anticipate that this lot will garner motivated bidders and yield a strong result for our client.”
