Residents of Las Vegas have been advised not to engage in panic buying of fuel following the temporary shutdown of two major pipelines due to wildfires in California. The pipelines, operated by Kinder Morgan Inc., were closed in response to the fires, impacting the delivery of gasoline and diesel to Nevada and other parts of the western United States.
The affected pipelines, SFPP West and CALNEV systems, have been non-operational since Wednesday. However, a solution has been identified to power the line into southern Nevada, with fuel expected to resume flowing on Friday, according to Clark County officials.
In a statement released late on Thursday, Clark County emphasized the importance of not panicking at the pump. They reassured the public that measures have been taken to address the situation and restore fuel supply to the region.
Earlier warnings from the city of Las Vegas highlighted the potential disruption to fuel supply and urged residents to limit unnecessary driving while the pipelines remain affected. CALNEV, which supplies fuel to Las Vegas from its terminal in Colton, California, and the SFPP West pipeline, which transports fuel from the Los Angeles Basin to Phoenix, Arizona, play crucial roles in the region's fuel distribution network.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to ensure minimal impact on fuel availability in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. Residents are encouraged to remain calm and avoid panic buying, as efforts are underway to address the pipeline shutdown and resume normal operations.
