Las Vegas Strip casino signs superstar pop singer residency

Las Vegas is known for hosting popular music residencies that often generate excitement among entertainers' fans leading to sell-outs for the length of engagements.

1970s superstar singer Barry Manilow famously broke Elvis Presley's record of 636 sold-out shows at the International Theater in the Westgate Las Vegas off the Strip, which was known as the International Hotel when Presley first performed there.

Manilow, who has performed at the theater since February 2005, has extended his historic residency for 48 more shows from Feb. 13 through Dec. 13, 2025.

Legendary rock band U2 opened Sphere Entertainment's  (SPHR)  spectacular Sphere on Sept. 29, 2023 and performed 40 sold-out shows on its "U2/UV Achtung Baby Live" residency before ending its engagement.

Superstar singer Adele opened her Weekends With Adele residency at Caesars Entertainment's  (CZR)  Colosseum at Caesars Palace in November 2022 and played to sellouts since taking the stage. Adele's 100 show residency will end Nov. 23.

Lady Gaga brought her sold-out "Enigma + Jazz & Piano" residency to Dolby Live's predecessor the Park Theater at the Park MGM from Dec. 28, 2018, through May 1, 2022. Lady Gaga returned to Dolby Live with her "Jazz + Piano" residency in August 2023 and wrapped it up on July 6, but told the audience that she plans to return with another residency.

Resorts World opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 2021 with a line-up of music superstars scheduled to perform residencies that included Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

Dion, who was set to open the Resorts World Theater on Nov. 5, 2021 with the first residency, had to cancel her engagement because of severe symptoms of Stiff-Person Syndrome.

Underwood's "Reflection" became the first residency at Resorts World, opening on Dec. 1, 2021, after Dion had to cancel, followed by Perry on Dec. 29 and Bryan on Feb. 11, 2022.

More Las Vegas:

Perry finished her residency at Resorts World on Nov. 4, 2023, and Bryan ended his on Jan. 6, 2024. Underwood's residency continues with shows on Aug. 14, 16, 21, 23, 24 and Oct. 16, 18, 19, 23, 25 and 26. She also just extended her residency into 2025, with six more shows, March 26, 28, 29, April 2, 4 and 5.

Underwood is the last of the original four residency stars still performing at Resorts World Theater, but rumors have swirled that Dion still wants to perform her residency at the theater. Dion is reportedly finalizing a deal to perform at the theater in late 2024 or early 2025, TMZ said.

Underwood and Dion are not the only singers preparing to perform at Resorts World.

Superstar pop and R&B singer Janet Jackson is heading for another Las Vegas Strip residency, as she is reportedly finalizing an agreement for shows beginning in December 2024 at Resorts World Theater that will include a New Year's Eve show, TMZ was the first to report.

The "Nasty" singer last performed a Vegas residency with her "Metamorphosis" engagement at MGM Resorts International's  (MGM)  Park MGM from May 17-Aug. 17, 2019.

Jackson is scheduled to take her "Together Again" tour to Europe, beginning Sept. 25 in Paris and wrapping up in Glasgow, Scotland, on Oct. 13 before starting her Vegas residency.
