Las Vegas has its hat in the ring for another massive event in sports.
The city is reportedly in talks with the Big Ten to host the conference’s championship football games at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, according to multiple reports including from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“The Big 10 has asked us to submit proposals,” Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and CEO Steve Hill said in a text message to the LVRJ.

Las Vegas already houses several professional sports teams other than the Raiders such as the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights, who won the 2023 Stanley Cup, and the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, who won the 2022 WNBA title and are favorites to repeat.
The city is also a prime candidate for the next NBA expansion team and is the impending new home of the MLB’s Oakland Athletics.
The also hosts a lot of singular sporting events, such as the 2022 NFL Draft and the highly-anticipated Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix in November.

The title game of the Big Ten has been held at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, since 2011. But that contract expires after next year.
Allegiant Stadium has held the Pac-12’s Conference football championship for the last two years, but given the conference’s struggles to maintain its members, it may be unable to continue in Las Vegas.
The Big Ten is on the other side of the Pac-12’s demise, taking four schools -- UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon -- to join their hoard of Midwest and East Coast schools by the 2024 college football season.
