Largs Thistle boss Stuart Davidson praying purple patch continues as he predicts 'tight' fight to the finish

Stuart Davidson is praying an end-of-season purple patch will be enough to keep Largs Thistle in the West of Scotland League Premier Division.

The Theesel boss watched his side maintain their recent good run of form on Saturday with a 1-0 home win over Irvine Meadow.

The result came hard on the heels of a midweek 8-1 thrashing of Beith as the Barrfields men desperately try to haul themselves out of a potential seven-team drop zone.

They currently sit 14th in the table - just one place from safety - but wins for Glenafton in 15th and Rob Roy and Rutherglen in 13th and 12th respectively all but guarantee a nervy four-game run-in.

Speaking after the Meadow game, Davidson admitted that all his players can do is concentrate on their own performances.

He said: "Three points is all I can ask from the boys from now to the end of the season. That's 10 points out of 12 in our last four games so that's massive for us.

"If we defend and make it hard for teams and it takes one goal to win the game, I'm happy with that.

"The players gave absolutely everything again today (against Meadow) so they've got to take confidence that if they work they've got a great chance of winning games.

"Unfortunately you're winning your game then looking at other results and they're not going for you but all I can ask from the boys is that they win their games and we see what happens with other teams. It's going to be tight."

Largs shaded the first-half against Meadow and made the breakthrough a minute before the break when defender Connor McGoldrick rose highest at a corner kick to send a downward header into the net.

The hosts were handed a great chance to double their lead early in the second half when Ryan McKie chopped down Laurie McMaster in the box for the clearest of penalty awards.

Striker William Sewell assumed spot kick duties but Medda keeper Marc Waters got a hand to his weak effort and then did brilliantly to block a follow-up shot with his legs, the ball deflecting over the crossbar for a corner kick.

Largs substitute Blair Docherty missed a great chance to put the game to bed late on but Meadow never looked like pinching an equaliser.
