A six-year-old girl was hysterical girl after finding a huge insect in her Aldi cake bar.
The youngster's granddad, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she was screaming when she realised what it was
The 42-year-old has no idea what kind of creature it is it is but reckons it could be a wasp-like insect or maybe even a dragonfly.
Snaps which the family grabbed show the rather large insect which is thought to be around two to three centimetres. The insect is described as having a long body and spindly legs.
It seems the girl managed to take a bite without munching too much into the creature.
The family bought the pack of five Holly Lane chocolate chip cake bars from the Aldi store in Withernsea, Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon.
But on a trip to Hull on Sunday, the six-year-old girl decided to eat one before getting the nasty surprise.
The furious customer told HullLive : “My granddaughter bit into the cake bar but then shouted ‘pops, there is a fly in it’. We thought she must have just mistaken one of the choc chips for an insect.
“But we looked at it was definitely an insect. It made my granddaughter feel sick and she started screaming hysterically. My granddaughter is fine now but it really frightened her.”
The man has since lodged a complaint with Aldi and is waiting to hear back. But he is sceptical about any response.
He said: “I later phoned Aldi customer services and they told me to send an email with photos which I did. I am waiting to hear back.
"This should not be happening. It has put me off shopping at Aldi now. We obviously threw the other cakes away but we have kept the one with the insect inside until this is resolved.
“My partner decided to bake some cake bars on Sunday instead. At least we know what is in them. Aldi will probably just offer a voucher or something but that’s not good enough. This is something that should not happen and we should not be fobbed off.
“The woman I spoke to did apologise and was helpful but we will see what happens next. We are certainly not trying it on to get free stuff. You can see the evidence. It is baked in to the cake bar.
The supplier of the cake bars says it was an 'isolated incident and Aldi has apologised to the family and reimbursed them after the horror find.
The Aldi spokeswoman said: “Our supplier has robust processes in place to prevent foreign objects from entering its products.
"We have apologised to the customer and this product did not meet our usual high standards and have provided a full refund.”
