A large fire has broken out at a building in Perth and Kinross, with cops and fire crews working through the night to extinguish the blaze. The alarm was raised shortly after 7pm on Friday night, when officers were alerted to a fire having taken hold of a commercial property, believed to be a laundry, on Emma Street in Blairgowrie
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were still on the scene as of Saturday morning. Police Scotland also remain in Blairgowrie and have closed the road off.
Footage taken at the scene, which was shared on social media, shows masses of thick, black smoke billowing into the night sky, which has been illuminated bright orange by the hopping flames. The smoke is believed to be affecting homes around two streets away from the incident itself, and a 'mushroom cloud' was said to have been spotted in the aftermath.
There are also concerns around chemicals which are said to be stored in the premise. Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area and to close their windows due to the amount of smoke in the air.
Anyone with a drone is also being advised to steer clear. The cause of the fire, as well as if anyone was inside the building when it went up, is not yet known.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "SFRS received a call at 7.02pm to a report of a building fire in Emma Street, Blairgowrie on Friday, 28 October. Operations Control mobilised a total of nine appliances to the incident and crews worked through the night to extinguish the blaze.
"One appliance remains on scene this morning to dampen down any remaining hotspots”.
