Large emergency services response including air ambulance after horror crash sees baby taken to hospital

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were scrambled to Altrincham on Sunday afternoon following a horror crash which saw a baby taken to hospital.

The crash, on Shaftesbury Avenue in Timperley, thankfully resulted in no serious injuries, but closed the road off from around 12.10pm this afternoon, as emergency services rushed to the scene and an air ambulance landed nearby.

Passers-by watched on in horror as police officers, paramedics, and firefighters worked to treat the drivers and passengers of two cars that had been involved in a head on collision, causing serious damage to the vehicles.

One of the passengers, a young baby, was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital as a precaution, but miraculously, the occupants of both vehicles were able to walk away with no serious injuries, according to police. Video from the scene showed a black Audi with extensive damage to the driver's side of the vehicle, and several other vehicles stopped in the road.

One woman who drove past the scene said: "It was awful, it looked like something really bad had happened. My daughter could see the baby, she said there was a baby whilst I was driving. I saw someone on the floor as we went past, they looked like an adult. I hope they're all ok."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two fire engines, from Stretford and Withington, attended the scene where two cars had collided head on. A baby, on board one of the vehicles, has been taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for precautionary checks. Crews were in attendance for ten minutes, whist they made the cars and scene safe.”

Greater Manchester Police later confirmed that there had been no serious injuries reported from the incident. A spokesperson said: "At around 12:10pm this afternoon (Sunday October 9), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Shaftesbury Avenue in Timperley.

"Emergency services attended the scene and tended to those involved in the collision. No serious injuries were reported. The scene is now closed and the roads are open as normal.” The road had reopened by 3.15pm. North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
