Large emergency services presence at Irlam station after reports of person being hit by a train

There is a large emergency services response at a train station in Salford tonight after reports of a person being hit by a train.

British Transport Police officers and firefighters are currently dealing with the incident at Irlam train station.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed, but the M.E.N understands that a person has been hit by a train.

British Transport Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for more information.

Pictures taken tonight show a number of police vehicles stationed at the scene.

Firefighters are also working at the scene, as well as a Network Rail response unit.

All train lines between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central are currently blocked, according to National Rail.

It is expected that trains will be cancelled or delayed until the end of the day.

The incident is affecting the East Midlands Railway line between Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street.

It is also affecting the Northern line between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street.

In a tweet, TfGM said: "Services between Manchester Oxford Road & Warrington Central are unable to run due to a police incident.

"Disruption expected until the end of the day.

"Replacement road transport has been requested to run in both directions, visit @nationalrailenq."
