Large cordon in place after pedestrian reportedly hit by car in Eccles

A large cordon is in place in Eccles this evening following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car.

Part of Liverpool Road (A57) has been shut by police as investigations into the incident are carried out.

It is thought the collision first happened at around 7.30pm, with a section of the road still closed off.

A large cordon has been in place for a number of hours closeby to the Peel Green Asda supermarket.

Police have shut the road off from New Lane to Parkside Avenue, with diversions currently in place.

A red Toyota Aygo has been seen within the cordon with a smashed windscreen, at the junction with Alexandra Road.

Bus operator Go North West also issued a service announcement at 7.45pm alerting people to the diversion following the incident.

There have been reports that a pedestrian was taken to hospital after being hit by a car, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Numerous police vehicles, including officers from the serious collision unit, remain on the scene, according to an eye witness.

"It looks as though the car has turned onto Alexandra Road off Liverpool Road and has sadly hit someone who was crossing," they said.

The condition of those involved is not yet known.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further information on the incident.
