Lando Norris suggested his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was "lucky" after the Aussie finished higher than him at the Mexican Grand Prix.
Ricciardo put in an excellent performance in response to one of his worst weekends of the season last time out. After the race in Austin, he looked a beaten man and told reporters: "I don't know how I'm continuing."
But he responded in the perfect way a week later in Mexico. It looked as though it might be another pointless result when he picked up a 10-second time penalty for taking Yuki Tsunoda out of the race, but the threat of missing out on the top 10 again seemed to spur him on.
Instead of disappearing out of contention, he powered through the field to finish seventh. He even had enough of a gap over Esteban Ocon behind him to make sure he didn't lose any places thanks to his penalty, while Norris finished two places further back in ninth after an uneventful race.
Reacting to the race, the Brit told Sky Sports: "We did a good job – maybe we covered Yuki a bit too early on the hard tyre and that wasn't a great thing to do, but apart from that the strategy was reasonable and Daniel did a good job.
"Daniel was in a lucky position, that he could stay out and do whatever he wanted. In other races I've been able to do that, in Monza and so on, and today it has benefitted him. We had a plan from the beginning in case someone was in that position, and Daniel was that guy and he made the most of it. Good job."
Reacting to his own result, Ricciardo said: "I'm very happy, but it still wasn't straightforward. I still got a 10-second penalty so I'm a little mixed about it. You never want contact, to the point the other guy goes off, but I just saw a replay and I don't feel as bad about it now.
"Of course, I still wish it didn't happen. I didn't miss the apex or lock and go into [Tsunoda]. Look, I'll take responsibility, but the truth is I was just trying to stay there, to keep it a little wide to get the exit. I wasn't trying to lunge in and actually pass in Turn 6.
"I think it's one where... look, I'll take a little bit more responsibility, but I can't say it's 100% my fault. But anyway, that was the difficult but of a moment in the race, but after [race engineer Tom Stallard] told me I had 10 seconds I was pretty dark, but then I felt I still really had good pace and got on with it, and really made it work."
