Only one driver in Formula 1 history stands between Lando Norris and an unwanted record.
The Brit is highly rated and regarded as a potential world champion of the future. Even amid McLaren's struggles for pace and consistency this season, he has still been able to produce some impressive results while his more experienced team-mate Daniel Ricciardo has found it difficult.
He has a comfortable cushion in seventh place in the drivers' championship, 20 points ahead of Esteban Ocon below him. Norris is also the only driver not representing one of the 'big three' teams to have stood on a podium in 2022.
But for all his talent and those impressive figures, there remains an achievement he is yet to complete. While he has produced plenty of impressive drives and results in the past, Norris is yet to taste victory in an F1 race.
He has come close – most notably in last year's Russian Grand Prix. Norris led the race in Sochi after qualifying on pole, but with just a few laps to go he made the gut decision to remain on-track as a wave of rain swept across the track – leaving him looking like "Bambi on ice" as Lewis Hamilton cruised past to win.
Norris' impressive record, coupled with his long wait for a maiden Grand Prix victory, means he is closing in on becoming the driver with the most points scored without winning a race. His seventh-placed finish at the Italian Grand Prix saw him overtake Romain Grosjean to move second on that list.
With 394 points amassed in his career, he remains some way off Nico Hulkenberg at the top of the list. The German has scored 521 points in F1 despite never standing on the top step of a podium, and could add to that figure if Haas choose him to replace Mick Schumacher next season.
Meanwhile, Norris feels he should have finished fifth rather than seventh at Monza, but was scuppered by "an extremely poor launch because of incorrect settings". Despite that, he believes his performance that day was one of the best he has ever produced.
"It was definitely my best this year, but almost in Formula 1," said the Brit. "P7 doesn't feel like it accomplishes a lot for what I feel like I did today, but that's life. It happens, we'll learn from it and move on."
