If you’re fixated on Demi Moore’s current comeback and need to see more of her pronto, I have just the show for you. She’s starring in Landman — created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan — the next slick drama to hit our screens, and it’s all about the dangerous oil industry in West Texas.
Basically, people head to the area to become filthy rich or lose it all. And yep, some oil riggers end up paying with their life.
Billy Bob Thornton plays the main character Tommy Norris, a crisis exec at one of the big oil companies. “The oil and gas industry makes $3 billion a day in pure profit,” he says in the trailer. “But before any of that money is made, you got to secure the land and manage the people. That’s my job. The first part’s pretty simple. It’s the second part that can get you killed.”

Landman is based on a podcast called Boomtown, and the official synopsis is intriguing. “The series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics,” it reads.
Demi Moore spilled a few details about her role in an interview with Deadline, and it sounds like she’s gonna kill it.
“I play an oil tycoon’s wife… lots of nice clothes. The substance of it is really exploring the issues around oil, petroleum, on all sides… and then of course there’s — as Taylor does so well — there’s delicious drama within and family dynamics,” she said.
“It’s a very interesting world in the boomtown of Fort Worth, Texas.”
Honestly, after Taylor Sheridan’s success with his other shows like Yellowstone, Lioness and Tulsa King, it’s no surprise he’s managed to pull together such a stacked cast for this blockbuster TV show. Here are some of the familiar names you’ll see pop up on the screen before you watch Landman, streaming only on Paramount+.
Billy Bob Thornton: Tommy Norris
Billy Bob Thornton plays the anti-hero role of oil crisis exec Tommy Norris, and the trailer makes it look like he’s gonna find himself in some ~heated~ situations. While some oil riggers have found instant wealth, Tommy went bust. He has to deal with seeing some of his colleagues and friends who made it big, while he’s out in the field toiling away in the Texas heat.
“There aren’t really a lot of scenes where my character comes home and says, ‘My god, was my day amazing!’,” Thornton told Vanity Fair. “I slink into the house every day like somebody just beat the hell out of me.”
He’s also an executive producer of the whole shebang. Honestly, it’s what you’d expect from a Hollywood stalwart — his career kicked off in the ‘80s. Bobby’s earned a bunch of awards over his time, including an Academy Award for writing Sling Blade, two Golden Globes for Goliath and Fargo, plus an Emmy nomination. But more importantly, he’s in one of the best Christmas movies of all time: Bad Santa.
Ali Larter: Angela Norris
Angela Norris is Tommy’s fiery ex-wife who has been estranged from him for a while. She’s since remarried, but reconnects with Tommy when her son Cooper is seeking out a job in the oil and gas industry. Norris is played by Ali Larter, an absolute ‘00s icon!
Her range is huge, with roles in Legally Blonde, the Final Destination movies and Heroes. I reckon her role as Norris could be her meatiest yet as she sounds iconic. According to Larter, her character “loves to wreak havoc in her ex’s life” and she’s “passionate and full of fire”.
“She’s dripping in Versace and diamonds… I’ve spent so much time in Texas, and the people are ballsy there. They’re rebellious and do things the way they want to do things,” Larter told Vanity Fair. “She walks in five-inch heels and is loud and splashy and fun. She is very unapologetic about that.”
Demi Moore: Cami Miller
If loving Demi Moore became your entire personality after watching her incredible performance in The Substance this year, you’re going to be obsessed with her new role as Cami Miller. She’s playing the rich wife of oil tycoon Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), and she told Kelly Ripa on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast that her character is based on real-life oil women in Sheridan’s life.
She was lucky enough to meet them in person and described the group as “powerhouses” who were dressed immaculately. In fact, one oil woman offered to loan Moore her jewellery for the show. “I had one of the ladies say, ‘Please just come to my closet’,” Moore revealed.
Despite Moore’s extensive filmography (Ghost, Indecent Proposal and Striptease to name just a few), somehow, she’s never won an Emmy or Golden Globe. I have my fingers crossed that 2025 is gonna be her year.
Jon Hamm: Monty Miller
Monty Miller is a successful oil tycoon who knows the oil and gas industry is considered “evil” in the world. He’s close with Tommy Norris, with a real rich versus poor dynamic going on. Unlike his womanising role as Don Draper in Mad Men, Jon Hamm’s role in Landman sees him become more of a family-oriented guy… or is that just what he wants us to think? I’m so excited to see his dynamic with Moore play out on screen.
The Emmy Award winner has had a varied career after Mad Men, from a role in the animated film Transformers One to the action blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick and more.
James Jordan: Dale Bradley
Dale Bradley is a petroleum engineer played by James Jordan, so he’s going to be out getting dirty in the field. He’s not a ‘yuge name, but he’s one of Taylor Sheridan’s faves. He’s had roles in Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, 1883 and Lioness.
Michael Peña: Armando
Michael Peña plays an oil crewman called Armando. We don’t know much about his character, but Peña is enough to get me pumped. He’s been in some critically acclaimed films like Crash, Babel, American Hustle and more, as well as starring in the Narcos franchise and Jack Ryan.
Andy García: Galino
Galino is described as a practical, powerful and capable man, so it makes sense that he’s played by none other than Andy García! Most recently seen in Expend4bles and Father of the Bride, García has credits coming out of his ears.
So, there’s the list of the truly stacked cast and where you might have seen them before. Now you won’t be scratching your head and searching Letterboxd while watching, meaning you can focus fully on Landman.
Landman is streaming only on Paramount+ from November 18.
