Landlord vows to help Ayrshire family return home in time for Christmas after fire

A housing association has vowed to help a Kilwinning family back into their home in time for Christmas after a fire left them homeless.

Riverside Scotland has promised to prioritise the Finlay family's house repairs after a fire ravaged their Pennyburn home on November 24.

Mum Nicole, 22, and her two daughters Macie, five, and Rylee, who will turn two next month, are currently living in a hotel after a fire started in the kitchen of their Sundrum Place home.

The trio were enjoying the town's annual Christmas light switch-on when the fire started from the cooker and spread to the boiler which then exploded.

Nicole braved the flames to rescue the family's bulldog, Holly, but most of the family's possessions, along with the children's Christmas toys, were claimed by the fire.

Their landlord, Riverside Scotland, rehomed the family to the Red Squirrel hotel and has vowed to make home repairs their top priority in a bid to get the family home before Christmas.

A spokesperson from Riverside Scotland said: “We were very sorry to hear about the fire that took place at Ms Finlay’s home on and truly saddened by the losses she and her family have endured.

“The Fire Service report found that the incident was unfortunately due to actions of the property’s occupants, and although we are not required to provide emergency housing in situations such as this, we recognise how upsetting and difficult it is.

"Therefore, as soon as we found out about it, we offered Ms Finlay and her family temporary hotel accommodation, where she is currently staying.

“We have prioritised the repairs to Ms Finlay’s property in hopes of moving her and her family back home before Christmas.

"Our Asset Officer and Housing Officer remain in touch with Ms Finlay throughout to provide support and assistance where needed.”
