Landlady found dead in freezer of home she was renting out as tenant charged

Chilling new details have emerged about the suspected murder of a landlady after a tenant was accused of murdering and dismembering her.

According to her heartbroken family, police were called "many times" about tenant Sand Kolalou, who has been charged with murder.

Kolalou is facing charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide related to the death of her landlady, 69-year-old Frances Walker, in Chicago, Illinois.

When she died, Walker was in the process of evicting Kolalou over complaints of frightening behaviour from neighbours.

The killing came a day after Walker had put an eviction notice on Kolalou's door.

Family say police had been called out five times to the address in relation to Kolalou but little progress was made.

Ms Walker's brother Jerome Walker said: "The whole situation is hard for me.

"It's easy for me to talk about her but it's hard for me."

"She played the church organ at funerals," said her niece Cory Walker.

"She was so kind, she gave everyone a chance."

On the night of Kolalou's arrest police had been called by concerned neighbours who heard screaming coming from the house.

When they arrived Kolalou was getting into a hired tow truck.

She declined to speak of officers and ordered the tow truck driver to drive to the beach where she is accused of dumping a large plastic bag containing bloody rags in a bin.

The 69-year-old's body was later found in a freezer and the suspect arrested.

Kolalou, who is also suspected of killing Walker's dog, was charged with first degree murder and concealment of a homicide.

In January 2022 police were called out to the same boarding house.

Sandra Kolalou, 36, is said to have cornered a resident at the same Chicago boarding house, knocked her to the ground and tried to choke her by shoving the asthmatic woman's inhaler down her throat.

She was accused of previously attacking another resident at the boarding house (ABC 7 Chicago)

She allegedly sung: "I'm a doctor, I can kill you. I'm a doctor, I can help you."

The neighbour chose not to be named while recounting the alleged January attack.

She told WKRG: "'he got on top of me, she put her hand over my nose, squeezed it shut.

"Put her other hand over my mouth, closed it shut. Tried to kill me."

The woman said she managed to bite Kolalou's hand and get away.

She continued: "I had one breath left and I bit what I thought was her hand.

"What I ended up biting was her finger," she said, describing how she was able to then call for help.

"[Officers] tried to get her up off the floor, tried to take her away. Which they eventually did, taking her to a psychiatric hospital."

After that incident Kolalou was charged with assault, but acquitted over the summer.
