Land train to be transformed into Santa Express for Christmas

A land train is being turned into something extra magical again this year for people in Porthcawl to enjoy.

Lucie the Porthcawl Land Train will be welcoming the Steelworks Santa on board for a magical festive event for families over the Christmas season. The event will provide a 40-minute “Santa Express” train ride around the town, offering carol singing, a meet and greet with Santa, a chance to take photographs with him, and a festive treat to take home.

Children will also receive a gift, free activity pack, and certificate from Santa himself. Lucie has undergone a festive makeover in preparation for Santa’s arrival this year, and there will be plenty going on as Family Claus will be joining Father Christmas with Mrs Claus leading some traditional carol singing and the Chief Elf spreading her own brand of Christmas Cheer.

Adele, of Adele Morris Photography attended the event to take pictures of the Santa Express last year with her children, and was impressed by the level of inclusivity the train offered. She said: “My eldest son is autistic and they were really accommodating in terms of me taking him on board as well. They are very inclusive and understanding, and my children had a really lovely time.”

Steelworks Santa Allan Evans attends Christmas events in the area to help raise money for charities. He said: “I’m delighted to be working with Emmaus South Wales to offer families a special Santa experience with traditional carol singing, festive treats, and photo opportunities, all while enjoying Porthcawl’s seaside scenery and supporting three good causes at the same time!”

Tickets cost £11 per person with a portion from each ticket split between Steelworks Santa’s chosen charities; Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and GIST Cancer UK. The remaining proceeds will go to Emmaus South Wales.

Jemma Wray, chief executive at Emmaus South Wales, said: “We’re so excited to run our Santa Express! Porthcawl locals have been so supportive of us this year with the launch of Lucie the Porthcawl Land Train, and we wanted to offer a special event where everyone can enjoy festive activities together. Steelworks Santa and Family Claus will provide a magical time for children and adults alike, with all ticket proceeds going to three great charities. For anyone attending, don’t forget to charge your phones and cameras for photos!”

The Santa Express will run on Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 & Friday 30th December from 10am to 4pm. It will be starting and finishing at Eastern Promenade. Usually, when Lucie the Land Train is not running as the Santa Express, she is sweeping along the Eastern Promenade. so people can travel from Coney Beach all the way up to Rest Bay and back again, with stops in between.

Tickets for the Santa Express must be purchased in advance, with a limited number available. To book your experience, you can visit the charity’s Eventbrite page.
