Land for 640 homes near Salisbury bought by housebuilder

Housebuilder Vistry Group has acquired land near Salisbury in Wiltshire for a planned 640 new homes. The deal was completed for an undisclosed sum.

The FTSE-250 firm, which builds properties for the Bovis and Linden brands, said its interest in buying the site off Netherhampton Road in Harnham, to the South West of the city, stretched back 10 years.

Planning permission for the scheme’s first phase of 234 homes is in place, with Countryside Partnerships - also part of Vistry - to deliver 87 homes, which will range from two to five bedrooms in size.

Vistry said 384 properties would be available for sale, while 256 - which equates to 40% - would be designated as affordable housing.

The development will also include a primary school, local centre, public open space – including a country park – and associated infrastructure and landscaping.

Emma Colin, Vistry’s regional manager for the West of England, said: “This is a great acquisition for the business. The site was secured by the strategic land team, which held an interest in the land back in 2013. The development aims to provide high-quality residential homes and amenities for the local community that are sensitively integrated within the area’s landscape and built character."

Highway improvement works, including a new roundabout, are due to start imminently, with work on the new homes expected to begin in April. Vistry said it would also contribute more than £14.5m towards local education, healthcare, transport strategy and a new doctors’ surgery in central Salisbury.

The company is currently building Bovis homes locally at Longhedge Village in the Old Sarum area, north of the city.
