Land beside major shopping centre to be sold off for new housing development

LAND beside Silverburn shopping centre is to be sold for housing.

The council is being asked to approve the sale of the site of the old Gowanbank Primary School near the busy mall in the south west of Glasgow.

Rosehill Housing Co-operative wants to build 44 homes for rent on the site at Overtown Avenue in the Pollok area of the city.

The land is currently vacant after the old school was closed in February 2018 and then demolished later in the year.

If approved by councillors this week, the land will be sold to Rosehill Housing Co-op for £570,00.

It plans to build a mix of flats and houses for social rent on the site.

The site is next to bus and train links with Nitshill station nearby and Silverburn accessed by many buses.

The site was one of 23 that were earmarked for sale to housing associations or co-operatives across the city to increase the number of homes available for social rent.
