Lancashire pub's £8k pie was one of world's most expensive dishes

A pie from a Burnley pub has been classed as one of the most expensive plates in the world.

The savoury serving comes in at an astronomical price primarily due to its world-class ingredients. The pie was once served at the Fence Gate Inn for an eye-watering £8,195 (£1,024 a slice) - reports LancsLive.

Former head chef Spencer Burge created the pie recipe using Japanese Wagyu Beef, Chinese Matsutake Mushrooms, Winter Black Truffles and French Bluefoot Mushrooms back in 2005. The pie, which also contained two bottles of vintage wine, joins four other extortionately-priced dishes from restaurants around the world.

Taking the top spot is the Grand Velas taco - a gold flake-infused corn tortilla stuffed with Kobe Beef, Almas Beluga Caviar and Black Truffle Brie Cheese and is served at Grand Velas Los Cabos Resort in Mexico. Although it sounds delicious, it will set you back £20,134 for just one.

Next on the list is a seven-cheese Italian pizza with three types of caviar that takes 72 hours to make (£9,664), a boozy Baileys and champagne Sri Lankan chocolate dessert (£11,678), and a 23-karat gold cupcake from Dubai.
