A stunned Lanarkshire woman says she was made to feel "embarrassed" by McDonald's staff after she found a caterpillar in her burger.
She posted on social media on Friday about the incident at the fast food chain's restaurant at Showcase Leisure Park in Coatbridge, saying staff made her feel like she had done something wrong.
The woman alleges that the staff couldn't even look her in the eye after she took the food back and asked for a refund, and says they only apologised when she was walking away from the counter.
An image she uploaded to Facebook shows what appears to be a tiny green insect inside a McDonald's carton.
The post states: "They honestly made me feel so embarrassed as if I had done something wrong.
"Didn't look me in the eye when handing me my money back and said sorry as I was walking away."
The woman ended her post by saying that she was "gutted" about the incident and said she wouldn't be back for a while.
A McDonald's spokesperson said: "We are sorry to hear about the customer’s experience.
"Food safety is of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards to avoid any imperfections.
"Following the customer’s complaint, we offered a full refund and conducted a thorough investigation in-store.
"We would encourage the customer to contact our customer services team to help find a resolution.”
