A drinker angry over a missing bottle of wine stabbed her mother five times as she slept.
First offender Rachael Ware then phoned for an ambulance and apologised for what she’d done.
Ware, 30, admitted assaulting her mother to her severe injury at their home in Dunbeth Court, Coatbridge, on January 22 last year.
Lauren Cole, prosecuting, told Airdrie Sheriff Court the accused had been drinking alcohol all morning and then went to bed.
The fiscal said: “Whilst Ware was in bed, her mother went through her bag and removed a bottle of wine and bank cards.
“She described her daughter as an alcoholic and said she didn’t want her to drink any more.
“[Her mum] then drank the wine and fell asleep on the couch.
“A few hours later she was wakened by Ware who told her she was bleeding.
“[Her mum] looked down and saw blood pouring from both legs. Ware told her she had caused the injuries with a knife because her mother had taken the bank cards and wine.”
Ware told police officers repeatedly that she had stabbed her mother and was sorry.
The victim was taken to Monklands Hospital where five wounds were treated. She was allowed home with painkillers.
Police found a bloodstained knife in the kitchen.
Ware's mother was in court for the hearing and confirmed to Sheriff Joseph Hughes that she was supportive of her daughter.
Defence agent Paul Belardo said bail conditions have prevented contact between the women and Ware now has her own tenancy in Beechwood Drive, Coatbridge.
The solicitor added: “It’s hoped that my client hit the bottom of the curve as far as alcohol is concerned when this incident occurred.
“Background reports will outline the ways in which she has tackled the problem since.”
Sheriff Hughes deferred sentence until next month and relaxed the bail conditions, allowing Ware to have contact with her mother.
