Lanarkshire woman pays tribute to mum after losing her battle with cancer

A Lanarkshire woman has paid tribute to her mum after she tragically died of cancer.

Veronica Moroney, from Cambuslang, had practically no symptoms of pancreatic cancer and her diagnosis came as a major shock to her family.

The 61-year was told by doctors that she would only have six months left to live.

Veronica’s daughter, Kales Moroney told Lanarkshire Live : “Mum was diagnosed under a year ago.

“My mum was one of those people who didn’t want to go to the hospital. It was my dad who eventually pushed her to go, the diagnosis just came out of nowhere. I just got the phone call saying that it was end of life cancer.

“She was in and out of Hairmyres Hospital. She had weekly chemo, which eventually went up to three times a week.

“They gave her six months, but she hung on a bit longer than that.

"The thing was she had practically no symptoms, one minute she was fine and the next she went downhill.

“She was a big part of the community, she lived in Cambuslang all her life, people knew her for years, they helped her out and she had a lot of friends.

“She was a warm person and one of those types of people who liked to chat."

Kales had put details of her mum's funeral on several local Facebook pages and tributes have poured in for the well-known face in the community.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, July 20.

Kales added: “I just appreciate everyone that’s been there in the community and my family, everyone has done so much. It just shows how much the community can help.

“I’ve been trying to get out as much as possible right now instead of sitting in the house. It’s been like waiting in limbo for the funeral.

“We asked everyone who came to wear something purple, it's her favourite colour and also the colour for pancreatic cancer.

"We all miss her so much."
