Lanarkshire woman left friend in 'pool of blood' with 20 knife wounds in attempted murder bid

A female thug left a friend with 20 knife wounds after a brutal murder bid in Lanarkshire last October.

Courtney Bodwick, 24, turned on Christine McTaggart, who she later told police had been a "mother figure" to her.

The 41-year-old victim had no memory of the horror attack, but later awoke to find herself in a bed covered in blood.

Bodwick now faces a lengthy jail-term after she pled guilty to an attempted murder charge at the High Court in Glasgow today.

The stabbing occurred at Bodwick's flat in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire in the early hours of last October 22.

Miss McTaggart had gone to wash a glass in the kitchen when the mum-of-two approached from behind and hit her.

Prosecutor Lorraine Glancy KC said the victim tried to fight her off.

Miss McTaggart's next recollection was waking up in bed in a large pool of blood.

Miss Glancy: "She called her ex-partner, who lived nearby, and said she had been stabbed."

The man - together with a concierge - came to her aid and found her wrapped in a blood stained duvet. The flat was also in disarray.

She stated to them: "I think I am dying."

Miss McTaggart was rushed to hospital suffering from 20 puncture wounds on her head and body.

Some of the injuries were described as life threatening although fortunately she is expected to make a full recovery.

Bodwick was held at the flat and initially claimed: "We had a scrap - nothing else."

It emerged she had sent a Facebook message to a friend in the early hours stating: "Help. ASAP". There was also a photo of her with a bloodied nose.

Bodwick later told officers the victim was "a mother figure" and denied at the time causing the injuries.

She added: "That is something that I would never do. Never in a million years, never."

It emerged today Bodwick already had previous convictions for violence.

The court was told Bodwick also had "little recollection" of what happened.

Rhonda Anderson, defending, said: "She accepts she must have acted in this way and stabbed Christine McTaggart.

"She is totally appalled by this behaviour."

Lord Colbeck remanded Bodwick in custody as sentencing was deferred for reports until next month.
