Lanarkshire woman hopes yoga morning will help Ukraine fundraiser

A Rutherglen yoga teacher is hoping to persuade locals to stretch into their pockets to help a good cause.

Linda Winters is holding a yoga morning at Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church Hall on Hamilton Road on April 30, with donations going towards the charity appeal for Ukraine.

Linda is hoping the morning, which will feature a one hour yoga session, followed by a cup of tea, a biscuit and the chance to chat with others taking part.

The Saturday event will precede Linda’s regular classes starting up in May, and she wanted to do something to help out the Ukrainian cause .

She explained to Lanarkshire Live : “In my day job I’m a fundraiser for a charity, so when I saw what was happening in Ukraine I thought about what I could do to try and help.

“I would love to take a family in, but I can’t because I don’t have the space in my flat, so I was thinking about what I could do instead to help, and something like a yoga morning seemed a good way to go about helping.

“It’s a humanitarian cause to help just now so it needed to be something immediate. These people are desperate, they need food and medicine immediately, so hopefully this can raise a bit for them quickly.

“The plan is to have a gentle yoga class from 10 till 11, followed by tea and a biscuit where people can ask about the classes that are coming up, talk about yoga and really just get to know each other a bit more.”

Linda is a board member of IYoga Glasgow and is looking forward to starting up her own classes in Rutherglen.

She added: “I’m both excited and nervous about it all. It’ll be very gentle and I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned over the years with yoga.

“It’s a chance to open up bodies and hearts, and feel good about ourselves."
