Lanarkshire walkers looking to raise as much as possible for charity

A Wishaw businessman is taking on a huge task as he plans to walk from Edinburgh to Glasgow for charity.

Thomas Dobbin will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK after his brother and brother-in-law both battled cancer.

He'll take on the huge 44-mile challenge with kids Stephen, 32, and Julie, 28, alongside him.

Thomas, who is the managing director at Select Property, decided to take on the challenge after seeing one of his friends do the same and wanted to see if he could challenge himself.

Thomas told Lanarkshire Live : "I'm no spring chicken myself but I have walked long distances in the past.

"I have walked from Wishaw to Mount Vernon and back before. I'm not sure what distance that is but it is a pretty decent trek.

"We are going to set off from Edinburgh about five in the morning and I think we will get to Glasgow for around six or seven in the evening.

"I'll have my kids by my side and I'm sure we will manage it together."

Thomas hopes to raise £2000 for Cancer Research UK and is hoping he can get as close to that goal as possible.

"I want to raise as much as I can as it is a cause close to my heart.

"My brother battled bowel cancer so I want to give something back now.

"I hope we can smash the £2000 goal, it would mean so much to me if we did."
