A Lanarkshire train station is on track for a transformation, thanks to a funding boost.
Cambuslang community council has announced plans to develop a new community gateway for passengers at the town’s main platforms.
The development will take place at Cambuslang Station after the group received £5000 through the Rail 74 Community Rail Partnership.
Suzie McCheryne, development support for Rail 74, told Lanarkshire Live: “We are very happy to listen to the voices of the community and passengers through the community council, to bring a real sense of regeneration and welcome to the area by providing an appealing transformation project.”
A new mural will be part of the development at Cambuslang Station. It is hoped it will create a more attractive environment and promote sustainable travel as well as enhance the entrance to the station. The mural will also complement the new park and ride car park facility which opened last summer.
Rail 74 has been happy to help the community council with support funding from Avanti West Coast and Cross-country Trains to deliver this welcoming space for the community and passengers.
The charity aims to deliver community benefits along the Rutherglen to Motherwell line through innovative projects that improve the natural environment and physical access to stations and enhance tourism.
Part of these plans includes the new mural, as well as a formal welcome sign.
The idea of the community gateway plan is for members of the public to enjoy the spaces that are being created as well as supporting the regeneration of the town.
Rail74 is always looking for new partnerships and trustees who wish to get involved in making a positive impact. Any interested parties should get in touch here.
