Lanarkshire thug ordered to stay away from ex after smashing up house

A man has been ordered to stay away from his former partner for three years after threatening her with a bottle and "smashing up" a house.

Jordan Lennox was also jailed for 21 months this week but he was expected to be freed immediately because of the time he had spent in prison awaiting the case.

Lennox, who turns 23 this week, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He admitted assaulting his then partner in Simpson Drive, Larkhall, on May 11 last year.

Lennox also admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at the house and exposing police officers to the risk of infection by spitting repeatedly after his arrest.

The court heard that he grabbed the woman by the neck and brandished a bottle at her. He also damaged furnishings in the house.

Allegations that he stabbed his partner repeatedly on the body with a knife and hit her on the head with a bottle were dropped.

Defence agent Jackson Bateman said Lennox has spent a "considerable" time on remand since his arrest and a criminal justice social work report was "fairly positive".

Mr Bateman added: "This is his first conviction for a domestic matter. He has no intention of reconciling with his former partner."

Sheriff Ray Small told Lennox: "No disposal other than custody is appropriate.

"Your not guilty plea to parts of the assault charge has been accepted, but it remains a serious matter.

"You also smashed up the house and then spat repeatedly, endangering police officers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"However, the 21-month sentence has effectively been served already, due to your time on remand."

The non-harassment order forbids any contact with his ex-partner for three years.
