Lanarkshire thug gets further jail sentence after sending ex threatening letters from prison

A thug has been handed a further jail sentence after sending his former partner threatening letters from prison.

Ian Stalker warned that he would slash the woman’s brother when he was freed.

He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and breaching bail conditions by making contact with his ex.

Stalker, 34, was jailed for two and a half years in December for what a sheriff described as a “campaign of intimidation” against his ex-partner in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw.

This included torching a car belonging to her new man, damaging windows at a house and making threats, including that he would disclose intimate photos of his ex.

The harassment was such that the woman twice tried to kill herself.

Sheriff Colin Dunipace described the evidence in that case as “heartbreaking and harrowing”.

Stalker, formerly of Crookston, Glasgow, returned to Hamilton Sheriff Court this week for sentencing on the latest charges.

These involved directing threats and abuse at his ex, her new partner and family members between May 2020 and November last year.

Some of this happened while witnesses were preparing to give evidence in the original case.

Chloe O’Hara, prosecuting, said that on one occasion Stalker sent a 10-page letter to his ex while he was on remand at HMP Addiewell.

In it he accused the woman of ‘fu***ng things up for him’ and ‘twisting things to the police’.

In a later message he warned he would be out of prison soon and would slash her brother, adding ‘Wait and see’.

Stalker also warned that he would send intimate photos of his ex to her mother.

Sheriff Liam Murphy jailed him for two years, backdated to February.
