Lanarkshire theatre group set to debut new plays

A Lanarkshire theatre group is set to debut two new plays.

The shows, created by Rutherglen Repertory Theatre, will be shown in several different venues around the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area starting on Friday, May 13.

Blood-Red Silver is about a mother-daughter duo, Janet and Kate, who have been forced out of their home and left destitute by English soldiers on the eve of the Battle of Bannockburn.

The drama follows their battle for survival and is guaranteed to make you shed a tear.

Lead Balloon is about part-time bin raker Ken who has become popular with his neighbours, but his long-suffering wife Bertha who hates the attention he gets is guaranteed to bring non-stop laughter to the audience.

A spokesperson for the group, told Lanarkshire Live : “Rutherglen Repertory Theatre has made a enthusiastic return following the enforced inactivity as a result of the pandemic.

“In September, we performed two plays in the Town Hall, followed by a local tour of the annual pantomime in December.

“Not only was it a delight to perform to appreciative audiences, but along the way, a number of young, enthusiastic, new members joined the club.

“Our current venture is our two plays written by well-known Rep veterans Gerry McCartan and Isabella Rae.”

Performances are taking place at the following locations:

  • Friday, May 13 at 7.30 pm - Rutherglen United Reform Church, Johnston Drive, Rutherglen.

  • Saturday, May 14 at 2.15 pm- Flemington Hallside Church Hall, Hutchinson Place, Halfway.

  • Sunday, May 15 at 2.15 pm - Kirkhill Halls, Cairns Road, Cambuslang.

Tickets for the plays can be purchased online.
