A Rutherglen takeaway owner has told of his disappointment after missing out on attending an award ceremony.
Ruglen Rolls won Best Roll Bar of the Year at the Scottish Takeaway Awards on Monday, July 11, much to the surprise of shop owner Graeme Anderson.
The shop hadn’t expected to win and didn’t attend the ceremony at Glasgow’s Marriott Hotel.
Graeme told Lanarkshire Live : “The thing is, I'm really kicking myself. I knew we had been nominated, but we didn’t go. We got an email on Tuesday saying that we had.
“The tables were of ten, and we only had six members of staff, so we didn’t go.
“We never expected to win. It’s our first award. The business was running for six years before I took it over in October, and it’s the first one for us.
“It’s a busy shop. We have a lot of customers from the nearby houses and flats.
"We’ve not changed much since I’ve taken over, but the plan is to change the shop and make it a bit more modernised. The long-term goal is to try and make it better.
“This is all still new to me. It’s not just about me, it’s about everybody in the shop.
"I was a chef and worked in a golf club catering for around 14 years beforehand. People thought I was nuts buying a business because I was a chief.”
The shop also took to Facebook to thank customers who nominated and voted for them.
