Lanarkshire swimming pool forced to close after 'emergency'

The swimming pool at Hamilton Water Palace has been shut down until next month following an 'emergency'.

Staff at the popular leisure facility on Almada Street apologised for any inconvenience after being forced to close the 25 metre pool unexpectedly on Wednesday for essential maintenance after a burst pipe.

The Water Palace's gym, pirate ship area pool, classes and health suite are still operating as usual until the main pool is repaired.

Those who have swimming lessons booked in will be contacted with alternative arrangements offered.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council told Lanarkshire Live : "Hamilton Water Palace has had to close its main swimming pool for essential maintenance due to a burst on the main circulation pipe.

"This will take a few weeks as swimming pool needs to be fully drained to allow the repair to be carried out and the pool re-filled.

"The rest of the building remains open including the Pirate ship. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
