Lanarkshire senior citizens group awarded to benefit from Lottery funding

A senior citizens group in Motherwell has been awarded funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

North Lanarkshire Council provost Agnes Magowan was invited to meet the St Brendan's Senior Citizens Monday Club and present them with the cheque.

The group meets every Monday at St Brendan's Community Hall for games, dancing and singing.

Susan Gierthy is the club's secretary and has said the funding will be used towards day trips.

She told Lanarkshire Live : "We are very thankful for this funding and it will be a huge help for the club.

"Some of our members have mobility issues so can't normally go on day trips, so being able to organise our own is a great help.

"We recently visited Largs and our next trip is on August 29 to Moffat for afternoon tea.

"Members look forward to these trips and the funding makes this possible."

The group are currently on their summer break but will meetings will resume on August 15.

They meet every Monday from 1.30pm until 4pm and are always welcoming new members.
