Lanarkshire secondary school celebrates pupil achievements with awards ceremony

Larkhall Academy celebrated the successes of senior pupils at their first in-person prize giving ceremony since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The evening, which took place on Wednesday, October 5, highlighted the academic and community-based achievements of the secondary school's 2021-22 senior pupils.

Starting with a fantastic display of musical talents the Academy's Presentation Committee was escorted onto the stage by the newly formed school pipe band. This was followed by a beautiful rendition of “With You”, from Ghost the musical, by Samantha Dhalakama.

Head teacher Mr Smith gave opening remarks and Gordon McGregor, from the charity Paradventures, gave an inspiring speech about his career in the police force and his work with disabled young people, both of which stemmed from experiences he had in his school days.

As pupils, parents/carers, teachers and staff moved towards the end of the evening, Maya Franks was awarded Proxime Accessit.

The evening culminated in the award of School Dux, jointly presented to pupils Chloe and Hayley Gilfillan.

Deputy head teacher Mr Mullen praised both girls academic and other achievements as he congratulated the pair.

Head teacher Mr Smith added: "We are very proud of all young people who received awards at the event and are grateful to those who came along to help."
