Lanarkshire schoolgirls scoop Davie Cooper tournament trophy

Talented young football players from Auchinraith Primary School proved worthy winners of the annual Davie Cooper Soccer 7s at Hamilton Palace Grounds.

The girls’ team secured the top spot after displaying some amazing football - not losing a single game - on route to a very tense final against St Mark’s Primary in Hamilton.

The Blantyre girls showed great strategy, stamina and skill during the final, that was forced to go to penalties after neither team had scored.

A tense penalty shoot out was however won by Auchinraith, with the players proving their skill and determination.

An Auchinraith Primary School spokeswoman said: "What a final! We are all so proud of the girls’ football team. Well done Auchinraith – you were worthy winners!"
