Lanarkshire schoolgirl goes for the chop to help children’s charity

Olivia Christie, from Chapelhall, was inspired to cut off a whopping 12 inches from her luscious locks and donate her ponytail to the Little Princess Trust, as well as raising over £300, for the charity.

The Trust provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their own hair, often through cancer treatment.

And the caring eight-year-old made the brave decision to lob off her treasured tresses after learning about sick kids on a television programme, and raised an amazing £310 for the charity, thanks to her friends, family and well-wishers.

Little Olivia was supported on the day by her proud parents, Melissa Stokesley and Jordan Christie, as well as her siblings Charlie and Corey.

Melissa told Lanarkshire Live: “Olivia had seen things about sick kids who had lost their hair on the TV. I explained to her that some kids are ill and it was then that she said that she wanted to donate some of her hair to help others.

“Both her dad and I are extremely proud of her. It’s such a big thing for an eight-year-old to want to help other kids. She is so thoughtful.”

The kind-hearted youngster, who attends Chapelhall Primary, was delighted with her newly-styled look, thanks to local hairdresser Sadie Costello of Ginger’s Hair and Beauty in Chapelhall, who kindly gave up her time to help.

“She loves her new hairstyle; she got a wee bit of a shock, but as soon as Sadie did it she said that she loved it,” Melissa confirmed.
