Pupils at a Hamilton primary school have been learning the basics of finance as part of Nationwide Building Society's 'Money Lessons' programme.
The session, delivered to primary five to seven pupils at Woodside Primary School, forms part of a programme designed to give youngsters the chance to brush up on their understanding of all things money - from savings and staying safe online, to credit and budgeting.
Feedback from previous sessions show that 98 per cent of students said they gained confidence in their relationship and understanding of money.
Woodside Primary’s Deputy Headteacher Ms Officer told Lanarkshire Live : “The children have responded positively to the sessions from the team at Nationwide. We are really pleased to have been able to bring in external experts to help bring money and finances to life and it will no doubt help the children access learning in a new and interesting way”.
Lesley McCormick, Branch Manager at Nationwide Building Society in Hamilton, said: “It has never been more important to learn about money given the pressures and rising costs facing us. But not everyone has access to information on finances growing up, which is why we are talking to schoolchildren to help them start as early as possible on this journey.
“A good understanding of your personal finances and the value of money at a young age can be vital in forming healthy financial habits. It’s been a pleasure going into Woodside Primary in Hamilton and get to know the children. We have seen them grow in their abilities to manage money and given them lifelong skills.”
Nationwide has a history of educational partnerships. As well as financial literacy, the Society has helped develop and attract STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills, including for women.
