Lanarkshire school will go from "strength to strength" after excellent report

A Lanarkshire primary school and nursery has been tipped to go "from strength to strength" after receiving a glowing report from education chiefs.

Loch Primary and Nursery in Rutherglen was rated as very good or good in every category they were evaluated in, with children there praised for being "caring and compassionate."

News of the strong report was welcomed by Rutherglen South councillor Robert Brown.

He told Lanarkshire Live : "“To get four ‘very good” ratings in an inspectorate report is exceptional and I congratulate head teacher Dawn Simpson and her staff on the results which followed a lot of hard work in a particularly difficult time.

"The Inspection Report talked about the high aspirations for the children of the leadership team, the highly effective, nurturing environment where children flourish and caring, compassionate children in the school. It was really very high praise indeed.

"I am sure that Loch Primary will go from strength to strength encouraged by this national recognition of their work".

The four very good grades were achieved in both primary school and nursery for leadership of change and for ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion.

The inspectors, who visited in September of this year, stated that there were several strengths of the school. These included: "The leadership of the headteacher and principal teacher in leading change. Together they lead Team Loch driven by their high aspirations for all children."

Team Loch refers to the "shared vision" the school have planned out, meaning Together Everyone Achieves More, Learning Opportunities Create Happiness.

It continued that the school and nursery have: "Caring, compassionate children who proudly ensure that everyone is respected and included in their school.

"The highly effective, nurturing environment where children flourish as a result of the consistent, calm and caring approach of all staff.

Lastly it noted there were: "Effective approaches to identifying children who may require additional support with their learning and wellbeing."

Among particular elements praised were the school's "strong ethos of continuous improvement" among staff, and having "a rigorous approach to quality assurance".

The school's usage of digital tools and outdoor learning was also praised, as was the care taken with pupils mental health.

For the future the report states that staff must "continue to ensure all children make appropriate progress in their learning across the curriculum" and "continue to work together to provide high quality learning experiences across the nursery class and school."

The report concluded that no further visits were required as part of the inspection.
