A Lanarkshire secondary school has made it to the finals of a prestigious nationwide science competition.
Pupils at Hamilton Grammar School are now in contention for a prize of £2000 at this year's The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Competition where they could be crowned UK Young Engineer and UK Young Scientist of the Year.
They are among 52 projects to make the national finals after approximately 200 were submitted this year.
The Big Bang Competition recognises and rewards young people’s science and engineering project work as finalists have the chance to win a range of prizes.
Judges and moderators were extremely impressed with the creativity and innovation shown to solve real-world projects shown by all the young people who participated.
Hamilton Grammar is one of only two Scottish schools to make the finals, with Larbert High School in Stenhousemuir also getting to this stage
The winners of The Big Bang Competition will be announced at the award ceremony at The Big Bang Fair on Wednesday, June 22 at the NEC in Birmingham.
The Fair runs from Wednesday, June 22 to Friday, June 24 and is fully booked for schools during the day.
However, families are welcome to join the largest celebration of STEM for young people in the UK on Thursday, June 23 from 4pm to 8pm at Big Bang Unlocked.
Free to attend and aimed at 11- to 14-year-olds, it includes inspirational talks, interactive workshops, and hands-on exhibits and careers information from STEM professionals.
Young people and teachers can also join virtually through Big Bang Digital.
On announcing the winners for this year's finals, The Big Bang stated: "A huge thank you to everyone who took part in The Big Bang Competition 2021/22.
"We were extremely impressed by the creativity and innovation shown to solve real-world projects shown by all the young people who participated.
