Lanarkshire school full of festive cheer after Christmas fair nets nearly £6000

A Lanarkshire primary school pulled off a Christmas cracker recently by landing nearly £6000 though their Christmas fair.

Burnside Primary School, in Rutherglen, were holding their first festive bash since 2019 - and they proved they were back with a bang thanks to a healthy £5900 profit on the day.

There were a number of stalls on the day, offering Christmas treats, and Santa himself stopped by from the North Pole as well.

Staff at the school were over the moon at the success of the day, as were the school's parent teacher council.

Helen McGarvey, the headteacher at Burnside, told Lanarkshire Live : "All the planning for our first Christmas Fair in three years certainly paid off - it was a wonderful day.

"Children and adults had great fun and it was no surprise to see the delicious home baking literally go like hotcakes once again.

The fair was such a lovely way to bring everyone together from our current and previous families to neighbours and local businesses. The energetic buzz has continued into school this week too.

"I want to say thank you to all volunteers and everyone who came along on the day to support our school; your support means all of our children will benefit from much needed funds."

Fiona Adamson, the chair of Burnside Parent Council, added her praise for the event.

She said: "Our Christmas Fayre 2022 was an absolutely amazing day.

"After missing our on such a key part of our school calendar for three years we really did come back with a bang.

"It was great to see the school community out in force and lovely to be able to welcome lots of new faces asking too.

"We're chuffed to bits to announce that we raised almost £6000 making this Christmas our most successful fundraising event ever.

"We can't thank everyone who came along, helped out or donated enough - it's quite overwhelming how generous everyone has been."

All of the funds raised on the day will go towards the school.
