A Lanarkshire school was forced to evacuate yesterday over fears of a possible gas leak.
Pupils and teachers were to told to exit the building at Stonehouse Primary School during the morning.
The swift action was taken as a precaution while the matter was investigated.
It came as a smell of gas was reported within the school which caused concern at the premises.
Children and staff were moved to nearby St Ninian's Church following the incident.
The smell of gas was later confirmed as a "false alarm" and the building was deemed safe to return to later that afternoon on Monday, November 21.
Some locals had spotted the evacuation and noted that nearby roadworks were also in place, however it is unknown if these were related to yesterday's incident.
A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council told Lanarkshire Live : “There was a report of a smell of gas in and around the school and, as a precaution, the school was evacuated to St Ninians church.
“It was confirmed by noon that this was a false alarm and the staff and pupils returned to the school building.”
It comes as schools across Lanarkshire prepare for strike action this Thursday, November 24.
Teaching unions will hold the industrial action over a pay dispute which sees members pursue a 10 per cent pay increase.
It is anticipated that all South Lanarkshire primary, secondary or ASN schools will be closed for pupils on that day. This includes nursery classes in primary schools.
