Lanarkshire school celebrates health day with workshops

A Lanarkshire high school has celebrated the return of a fun-filled activity day.

Trinity High School in Rutherglen usually hosts its S3 health event annually, but it was cancelled the last few years due to the Covid pandemic.

The action-packed workshops took place on Tuesday, May 24, and pupils enjoyed a variety of different activities throughout the day that was organised by one of the PE teachers, Nicola McCleery.

A variety of projects such as a climbing wall, cooking demo, boxing, fitness bootcamp, ultimate frisbee and team building were organised.

English teacher Catriona Steell told Lanarkshire Live about some of the workshops that took place, saying: “The sun shone on our incredible climbing wall and certainly proved to be an adrenaline-filled workshop. This was a very popular workshop with pupils scaling the wall with great speed and skill.

“Pupils loved a mouth-watering workshop which proved that eating healthily can be low-cost, delicious and easy. The pupils gathered round to observe how they could swap unhealthy fast food such as Pot Noodles for even tastier, healthier alternatives.

“The energetic workshop on boxing fully engaged our young people, with many saying it would encourage them to try this sport outside of school. The pupils were encouraged to understand the skill, determination and motivation required to succeed in this sport.

“Pupils were once again out in the fresh air for the fun-filled activity of ultimate frisbee. Pupils were engrossed as they watched demonstrations on how to throw a frisbee with excellent precision.

“The pupils certainly had lots of energy required for this action-packed fitness camp, and they enjoyed the fresh air. They were put through their paces in a series of fast-paced drills. Stamina and endurance were on full display when pupils had run towards each other, do squats and sprints.”
