A Lanarkshire salon owner has hit the heights on social media after sharing videos of herself and her clients taking part in a unique hair colour challenge.
Leanne Phillips, who owns Leanne Phillips Hair & Beauty Salon on Quarry Street in Hamilton, has notched up millions of views on TikTok after posting her creative content to the site.
In her short clips, the mum-of-four can be seen asking her clients to choose, blindly, from sheets of paper what colours to mix for their hair - and the transformations are astonishing!
One of the videos has proved so popular that it had more than five million views in a matter of days, with others hitting the two million mark.
Leanne told Lanarkshire Live: "I am by no means social media savvy, but I decided it would be good fun to have a go at sharing my creations across different social media platforms. I decided to give TikTok a go and started making videos of my creations as well as some clients taking part in the 'hair colour challenge'.
"You can imagine the surprise and shock when I realised a video I had posted was going viral. The views were rapidly increasing. But the biggest shock came when I realised this one video was not just a fluke. A week later the same happened again but with a much higher number of views. And within a few days I had two videos with views into the millions, with others gaining hundreds of thousands.”
Leanne’s TikTok following increased to 15k in a very short time and with certain challenges faced by the beauty industry in recent years, her social media success has brought happiness to herself and her team.
She added: “The last couple of years have been a challenge for everyone in the hair and beauty industry, having to spend several months closed during the pandemic, but I now could not be happier with the success of the salon and the huge social media success we have been having too.
“We offer such a wide range of colour services that often hairdressers will shy away from doing, but this is one of the things I love to do the most and is an area of hairdressing I have built up a regular clientele in.
"I even have clients who regularly travel hundreds of miles, to have their colour done by me. These clients come from areas such as London, Wales, Jersey, Edinburgh, and the Scottish Borders. I feel honoured people will travel such distances to have me do their hair.
"I love being creative and coming up with new styles and colour combinations as well as being able to create other peoples’ visions for them.”
Earlier this year, Leanne was ranked as one of the top 10 vivid colour specialists at the Social Media Hair and Beauty Awards. The Salon was also a finalist and ranked as one of the top 50 UK colour salons at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards.
