Lanarkshire roads disruption as fire crews tackle ongoing blaze at house

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a house in Cumbernauld.

Six crews plus an aerial height applicance raced to Glen Fyne Road in Cumbernauld after the house fire broke out at 6am today.

The road is closed to traffic and people are being asked to avoid the area as emergency services carry out their work.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 6.05am on Friday, July 1 to reports of a house fire.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance to Glen Fyne Road in Cumbernauld.

“The fire has been contained and is presently being extinguished.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were called around 6.25am on Friday to a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld.

“Emergency services are in attendance; the road is currently closed and people are advised to avoid the area for the time being.”
