Lanarkshire road closed after car and ambulance collide

A busy road in Lanark has been closed for several hours after a car and ambulance collided.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the incident on Lampits Road, just before noon.

The female driver of the car, along with the emergency services team within the ambulance were all taken to University Hospital Wishaw, where they are undergoing treatment.

The road remains closed, with a local diversion in place.

South Lanarkshire Council notified road users of the closure via its social media platforms this afternoon.

A post read: "The A70 is closed between Lampits Road, West End and Columbie Junction. A local diversion is in place."

Police Scotland confirmed the incident and told Lanarkshire Live : "Officers attended a crash involving a car and ambulance which happened at around 11.40am on Thursday, 4 August, 2022 on Lampits Road, Lanark.

“The female driver of the car, along with the driver of the ambulance and passenger were taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.

“The road is still closed and diversions are in place.”
