Lanarkshire pupil leaves his mark on local area with competition to name new housing development

A primary school pupil has won a competition to name a brand new Lanarkshire housing development.

Christopher Maddy penned the name of the soon-to-be estate in Hamilton - Oakwood Grove - after being tasked with coming up with a marketing title that would reflect the character of the local area.

The Woodhead Primary P7 pupil is pictured revealing the first signage of the new Taylor Wimpey development where pre-construction is already well underway.

As a prize, he received a £50 book token and the housebuilders donated £250 to his school to fund various resources.

Speaking of Christopher's achievement, head teacher Mr Jasnosz-Clark said: “We are very happy that Christopher has made his mark locally by naming Taylor Wimpey’s development, and we are also delighted with the kind donation of £250 to our school which will be used to boost various resources.”

The competition came as an initiative from Taylor Wimpey as part of a local community engagement project in South Lanarkshire.

Audrey Ross, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland added: “It is incredibly important to us to get involved in the local communities in which we build, and we are delighted to work with children at Woodhead Primary to name our development in Hamilton.

“Oakwood Grove, created by Christopher, will form part of the existing vibrant local community and will be a great place to call home. We are looking forward to launching our new homes for sale later this year.”

Pre-construction work for its development of 203 new homes off Meikle Earnock Road, is well underway.

Forming part of the Brackenhill Farm masterplan area, Taylor Wimpey’ say Oakwood Grove cements the firm's commitment to the local Hamilton area for some time to come.

They told how Oakwood Grove will deliver an impressive choice of two and three bedroom terraced and semi detached homes, as well as a range of four and five bedroom detached homes to appeal to buyers wherever they are on their property journey.

You can find out more about Oakwood Grove in Hamilton and register interest in a new home at the development, launching for sale in late 2022, by visiting the development online here.
