Lanarkshire primary school pupils are dressed for success with new senior school uniform

The senior pupils at High Blantyre Primary School are dressed for success thanks to a new look school uniform courtesy of the Parent Council.

Before the summer holidays, the Parent Council met with the children in the 2022/23 P6 and P7 classes on several occasions to understand what clothes they'd like as part of their senior attire.

And after deciding what they'd like, the Parent Council got to work and made the pupils choice come to fruition.

Chairperson of the Parent Council Dr Susan Lindner-Kelly told Lanarkshire Live: "Some of the senior pupils were not wearing their full school uniform. We wanted them to feel proud of being part of High Blantyre Primary School, so worked with them to help them to understand the importance of uniform throughout their lives regardless of the job the undertake.

"At the same time, listening to them to understand what uniform that they'd like to wear and most importantly, feel proud wearing. This was when the idea of a new senior school uniform, with different tie, was borne.

"We worked hard over the summer to ensure that we could provide almost 70 pupils with a new senior tie and blazer free of charge, made possible thanks to grant funding and parent fundraising.

"We couldn't be prouder of our children for turning up each day in their new senior uniform. They look super and are also setting a great example to the lower school. We are proud to see them representing our fantastic school."

Headteacher, Kirsteen Helsby, was delighted with the new look for her senior pupils and said: "Thanks to our Parent Council, we are delighted to see all of our senior pupils wearing their new school uniforms with pride.

"At High Blantyre Primary School the wearing of school uniform ensures that all our children come to school ready to learn as we prepare them for High School and the world of work. Our senior pupils are indeed great role models to our younger pupils."
