Lanarkshire primary school celebrates retiral of long-standing staff member

Pupils, staff and parents at Bothwell's St Bride's Primary School said a fond farewell to one of their long-standing members of staff last week.

For Mrs Karen McDade has put her pen to the side and noted her last child's sickness day as she now looks forward to a long and happy retirement.

Having worked at St Bride's for over 18 years, Karen was based in the school office and supported children and families throughout that time. Helping with enrolments and enquiries, not to mention the scrapes and bumps over the years.

She also helped to supervise in the playground and always went the extra mile often joining in with games, sports day or refereeing the football.

Karen was pivotal in helping in the schools World of Work week and went over and above to work with parents and local businesses to make this a standout event for the children.

School headteacher Mrs Fiona Cleland told Lanarkshire Live : "Mrs McDade is a much loved member of the St. Bride's team and her cheery greetings and caring nature will be sorely missed. Mrs McDade's kindness will not be forgotten and the staff, pupils and families past and present wish her a very happy and relaxing retirement."

The school celebrated Karen's retiral with a special mass at St Bride's Church in the town as well as then a whole school assembly where she received some beautiful flowers and gifts.
